Theory and simulations of rigid polyelectrolytes

چکیده
We present theoretical and numerical studies on stiff, linear polyelectrolytes within the framework of the cell model. We first review analytical results obtained on a mean-field Poisson-Boltzmann level, and then use molecular dynamics simulations to show, under which circumstances these fail quantitatively and qualitatively. For the hexagonally packed nematic phase of the polyelectrolytes we compute the osmotic coefficient as a function of density. In the presence of multivalent counterions it can become negative, leading to effective attractions. We show that this results from a reduced contribution of the virial part to the pressure. We compute the osmotic coefficient and ionic distribution functions from Poisson-Boltzmann theory with and without a recently proposed correlation correction, and also simulation results for the case of poly(para-phenylene) and compare it to recently obtained experimental data on this stiff polyelectrolyte. We also investigate ion-ion correlations in the strong coupling regime, and compare them to predictions of the recently advocated Wigner crystal theories. email: [email protected] email: [email protected]

متن کاملMass Properties Identification of a Rigid Body Using Modal Analysis
In performing vibration analysis of the car engine on the engine support, it is necessary to know the mass properties of the engine including mass, position of the center of mass and mass inertia moments. Because the car engine has a relatively complex geometric shape and is composed of different components with different densities, determining its mass properties faces many challenges. There a...
متن کاملConformations and interactions of star-branched polyelectrolytes.
Combining monomer-resolved molecular dynamics simulations with a theory based on a variational free energy, we calculate the conformational properties and the effective interactions of star-branched polyelectrolytes for a large variety of arm numbers, degrees of polymerization, and charge fractions, with and without added salt. We find quantitative agreement between theory and simulation and pu...
متن کاملAggregation of flexible polyelectrolytes: Phase diagram and dynamics.
Similarly charged polymers in solution, known as polyelectrolytes, are known to form aggregated structures in the presence of oppositely charged counterions. Understanding the dependence of the equilibrium phases and the dynamics of the process of aggregation on parameters such as backbone flexibility and charge density of such polymers is crucial for insights into various biological processes ...
متن کاملStability Analysis and Robust PID Control of Cable Driven Robots Considering Elasticity in Cables
In this paper robust PID control of fully-constrained cable driven parallel manipulators with elastic cables is studied in detail. In dynamic analysis, it is assumed that the dominant dynamics of cable can be approximated by linear axial spring. To develop the idea of control for cable robots with elastic cables, a robust PID control for cable driven robots with ideal rigid cables is firstly de...
